The Flat Rock Village Bakery was opened in 2001 as a small brick oven bakery producing a few varieties of sourdough breads.  In it’s early years the bakery gained a loyal following for it’s brick-oven sourdough breads, scones, and wood-fired pizzas.  In 2005 David Workman became a partner in the bakery and eventually became the sole owner.  In 2011 a second Village Bakery was opened in Fletcher where we use the extra space for the production of our cookies, cakes, laminated pastry and more.

The two Village Bakery locations offer similar offerings in two very different settings. Flat Rock is home to our massive brick-oven where we bake our organic breads daily and wood-fired pizzas.  The pizzas and outdoor seating help to make the historic Flat Rock location a long standing customer favorite. At our Fletcher Village Bakery location we have a large cafe space with ample indoor seating, and a full breakfast and lunch menu focused on sandwiches made with local organic ingredients on hour house baked breads.  In addition both locations offer an amazing selection of fresh baked pastries, coffee, and espresso to go along with our breakfast and lunch menus.

Our original Flat Rock Village Bakery location has long stood out as a dining destination for its large from scratch menu and amazing baked goods.  We have faithful customers who come for our pastries, coffee, sandwiches, brick-oven breads, soups, and wood-fired pizzas served from a funky hole-in-the wall setting in historic Flat Rock N.C.

In Fletcher we are building our customer base by offering all the same organic food (except the pizzas) in our cozy neighborhood cafe. In addition the Fletcher location is the hub for our of specialty cakes and desserts under the guidance of Lindsay Hathaway and her baking team.

Our Mission

The mission of the Flat Rock Village Bakery and Fletcher Village Bakery is to improve our community by producing from scratch foods with the most local and organic ingredients possible. And to offer these foods at both our locations in a friendly and welcoming environment where we provide an opportunity for our customers to meet other people in the community. We enjoy making the food we serve and we want our customers to know that when they dine with us they are choosing a fresh, healthy, and local place to eat.
